Sun City's Fall Errand Map, From the Del Webb Gate to the Cones

  • October 8, 2026

Leave Sun City at Del Webb Boulevard, turn left onto Williams Drive, and the H-E-B at D.B. Wood Road is the second traffic light, about 1.7 miles down the road. Keep going about two miles past it toward Lakeway Drive and you reach the orange barrels. Since late September, much of that stretch has been down to one lane each way, with two lanes returning on the eastern half after 4 p.m.

Across the community, Ronald Reagan Boulevard has its own new project. Williamson County listed October 2 as the construction start for widening the segment that begins at Williams Drive. Two road projects starting a few weeks apart makes it sound like Sun City is boxed in. The maps tell a more specific story. On both routes, the work begins right where Sun City's closest everyday stops end.

The Williams Drive Route, Signal by Signal

Georgetown's corridor report lists the signals and side streets in order along Williams Drive. Read from the Sun City end toward downtown, the drive looks like this:

  1. Jim Hogg Road, a half mile northwest of the Del Webb Boulevard intersection.
  2. Del Webb Boulevard, Sun City's Williams Drive gate.
  3. Penny Lane, Woodlake Drive and Wildwood Drive, heading southeast.
  4. D.B. Wood Road and Shell Road, the signal with the H-E-B.
  5. Deer Haven Drive and Serenada Drive, where the current work zone begins.
  6. Booty's Crossing Road and Lakeway Drive, where it ends, about 3.7 miles from the Del Webb gate.
  7. Rivery Boulevard, then I-35 and Austin Avenue.

Phase 1 of the Williams Drive Enhancement Project covers steps five and six. It runs from Serenada Drive to Lakeway Drive and adds a raised center median, street lighting, landscaping and upgraded intersections and signals. Everything from the Del Webb gate through the D.B. Wood signal sits on the Sun City side of that zone. That includes the coffee stop at Woodlake Drive and the H-E-B run.

One nearby exception is close to that H-E-B. As of the city's September 29 update, Shell Road had intermittent lane closures with flaggers from Williams Drive north to Sycamore Street, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Inside the Work Zone, Week by Week

For trips that do go past Serenada, to Rivery, downtown or the I-35 frontage road, the schedule matters more than the length of the drive. Georgetown's project log says median work started September 21. Crews cut six inches into the pavement between Serenada and Sports Clips Way, and the contractor planned to stay one or two medians ahead of the concrete crew. The Williamson County Sun ran a photo of traffic squeezed to one lane on September 23.

The city's closure page, updated September 29, splits the zone into two sections with different rules:

Section of Williams Drive Lanes Hours Expected through
Serenada Drive to Sports Clips Way One lane each direction All day Oct. 11
Sports Clips Way to Lakeway Drive One lane each direction 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11
Sports Clips Way to Lakeway Drive Two lanes each direction After 4 p.m. Oct. 11

So an afternoon trip toward Lakeway that starts after 4 p.m. gets the full lane count on the eastern half. A midday trip does not.

Once the median is built, the bigger change is permanent. The city's announcement puts it plainly:

"Once construction begins, the existing center turn lane will be removed, and drivers will no longer be able to make left turns across the roadway in this section. Access to neighborhoods and businesses will remain available, though some traffic movements and access points will change."

The city hasn't published a business-by-business access map. The most reliable way to plan a left-side stop in that stretch is the project page, which takes signups for updates. The project team also answers questions at [email protected] or 512-354-2627. Georgetown estimates Phase 1 will finish in late 2027, depending on weather and field conditions. The project log lists August 13, 2027 as the anticipated completion.

The stretch closest to Sun City has no construction date. The city's February 2024 corridor report placed the D.B. Wood Road to Jim Hogg Road segment in its medium-term horizon. It said timeline and phasing depend on available funding.

The Other Gate: Ronald Reagan Boulevard

The second route repeats the first one's geography. The Parmer Ranch H-E-B opened September 17, 2025, at 10110 RM 2338, on the northeast corner of Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Williams Drive. The store has covered curbside pickup parking and a full-service pharmacy with a covered five-lane drive-thru. It also has a 12-pump fuel station with a car wash.

That corner is also the southern end of Ronald Reagan Boulevard Segment D1. The project runs about 2.4 miles from RM 2338 to CR 245. It will build a new two-lane road as the southbound frontage road of an eventual eight-lane roadway and turn the existing road into a northbound-only roadway with a divided median. The 2023 voter-approved road bond pays for it.

Williamson County's road bond status table from September 25, 2026 names Chasco as the contractor. It lists a bid award of August 31, notice to proceed on September 22 and a construction start of October 2. The same entry says the groundbreaking ceremony was only "tentatively scheduled" for October 2 and that construction was "anticipated to begin in October." No temporary lane-closure dates have been announced at the Williams Drive intersection yet. The September table targets completion in Summer 2028. The county's April 2026 FAQ said spring 2029, so treat the finish date as an estimate that has already moved once.

The neighboring segments are later than earlier forecasts said. The April FAQ put Segment C2, from CR 289 to just west of Williams Drive, on a fall 2026 start. By September 25, the county's estimate had moved to Early 2027, with a Summer 2028 finish. Segment D2, from CR 245 to southwest of SH 195, is estimated for Early 2028 through Spring 2029.

The One Project That Just Finished

Sun City's third exit has new capacity this fall. Sun City Boulevard is the community's route out to SH 195. The county's ramp project there adds a right-lane exit so northbound SH 195 drivers can get directly onto Ronald Reagan Boulevard. Construction began August 18, 2025, and reached substantial completion August 31, 2026. As of September 25, the county reported project close-out underway, including continued watering of new plantings. The other three ramps at that interchange are still in design, with construction estimated from Fall 2027 to Summer 2028.

What's Open, and What's Still Coming, on Williams Drive

Most of the new restaurant activity on Williams Drive this year is on the corridor around the work zone, not inside it. Some of it is confirmed open. More of it is still a forecast.

Business Address Status as of early October 2026
Black Rock Coffee Bar 100 Woodlake Drive, Ste. 400 Opened April 21, its first Georgetown location
Project LeanNation 4720 Williams Drive, Bldg. 1, Ste. 105 Listed as open on the company's locator; prepared meals and protein shakes
Chick-fil-A 4631 Williams Drive Georgetown's second location; completion expected in November

Bojangles 4808 Williams Drive Outlook moved to late fall or early winter 2026
Commercial National Bank 3900 Williams Drive Full-service branch targeting late 2026

The Chick-fil-A, Chipotle and Bojangles timelines all come from reports published earlier in 2026. Check before driving over for an opening day.

Dates for the Fridge

  • Oct. 11: The current lane closures on Williams Drive from Serenada to Lakeway are expected to run through this date, per the city's September 29 update.
  • October: Segment D1 construction on Ronald Reagan Boulevard is expected to get underway.
  • November: The second Georgetown Chick-fil-A, at 4631 Williams Drive, is expected to be complete.
  • Early 2027: Estimated start for Ronald Reagan Segment C2.
  • Late 2027: Estimated finish for the Williams Drive median work from Serenada to Lakeway.
